City of Cottonwood Public Works Director Tim Costello leads
the Stewards in a Black Canyon Wash Abandoned Vehicle Cleanup

Thanks to Joan E. Tyler and Judy Miller for the fantastic photography of the event.

It was dirty work, but somebody had to do it! The Stewards of Public Lands partnered with the City of Cottonwood and B&R Recycling to tow three abandoned junk vehicles out of Black Canyon Wash in the Prescott National Forest area in Cottonwood. Public Works Director Tim Costello organized the cleanup with city staff volunteers Jim Wixom and Shane Johnson assisting. Stewards volunteers Charles Mackey of Verde Village, Jess and Joan Tyler of Cottonwood and Judy and David Miller of Cornville added muscle-power to the task. Costello says the area is important because it is the only National Forest trailhead near Cottonwood and benefits its residents. "We got the three abandoned cars out in under three hours," he said. B&R Recycling assisted. The Stewards continue their efforts against illegal dumping on public lands. Both the Yavapai County Sheriff's Department and Cottonwood Police Department have pledged stepped up enforcement in the area. The public is invited to help with the ongoing cleanup efforts.
